Milliways: Apping a Character

1. Check the community profile to see if apps are currently open.
2. Check the cast list, and make sure the character you want is not already taken.
   • If a character is marked as '-RESERVED]-', this is often because a character's canon-mates would like a heads-up before that character is app'd, or have particular things they would need to discuss with a potential player first. If the character you want is reserved, contact both the player listed as well as the mods.
   • If a character is marked *RETIRED*, this character is a taken, but inactive, member of the community. If the character you want is retired, contact the mods.
3. Create a Dreamwidth journal for your character. The journal profile page must contain:
   • your character's name
   • a brief description noting any unusual characteristics that anyone approaching them might notice (eg: wings, horns, intangibility, that italics means that they are singing, etc...), and some basic canon information, so that other players have some background info at their disposal
   • at least one way for other players to contact you (an AIM handle/email address/link to a sticky post/plurk/tumblr/whatever)
   • the following disclaimer:

     Character name is from name of book/movie/show/whatever, and is the property of name of author/publisher/studio/whoever. They appear here solely for the purpose of role-playing in <user name=milliways_bar>, from which no profit whatsoever is being made.

4. Email milliways.apps @ gmail . com with the following information:
   • your username on DW.
   • your email address.
   • your AIM handle/plurk/tumblr/nickname (what you as the player go by to other players in the game). This is important, as it allows us to keep track of how many characters you have. No 'Character-mun' style handles or false aliases! If you don't want anybody else to know you're playing a character, simply say so in the email. Modly discretion is, as always, assured.
   • the character you are apping (full name and fandom).
   • your character's DW username.
   • between 300 and 500 words just talking about one or more of such things as: your character's personality, a very brief (ie, one or two lines) summary of any particularly relevant backstory (don't worry, you can expand on this in the journal userinfo, if you want), how you intend to play them, why you want to play them, that sort of thing. This is mostly for us to ensure that you have put some amount of thought into the character, and to reduce the amount of people applying for characters on a whim, and then forgetting about them.
5. Log in as your character, and join milliways_bar.
6. Add your character to the cast list.
7. Add yourself to the contact list.
   (If you are applying to play a character anonymously, skip this step.)

Your application will be added to the list of people waiting to join, and you will be made a member before the end of the month during which you applied.
